SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Champion City Kings (7-17) resumed their current homestand with a Thursday (June 27) contest against the Lafayette Aviators (14-11) at Carleton Davidson Stadium. Following Wednesday’s rainout, the second of six straight games at home took place on a beautiful night in Southwest Ohio.
Lafayette jumped out to an early lead and defeated the Kings 13-3 in eight innings on Thursday night.
The Aviators scored the first eight runs in the opening two frames, with two in the first and six runs in the second inning. They later scored three runs in the sixth inning, opening an 11-0 lead over the Kings.
In the sixth inning, the Kings got on the board. Alex Jones (Amherst, Ohio / Notre Dame College) reached on an infield single before Louis Florida (Wilmette, Illinois / DePauw) drilled a two-run home run. Lafayette went to the bullpen after a Will Balgo (St. Clarksville, Ohio / West Liberty) single and Joe Ricchio (Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin / Southern Indiana) hit by pitch. Kolten Poorman (Bonne Terre, Missouri / Eastern Illinois) singled home Balgo with a RBI knock up the middle.
Lafayette completed the scoring with two runs in the eighth inning as they won 13-3 by the league’s run-rule.
Poorman led the Kings with a two-hit game. Florida homered while Braylen Blomquist (St. Clairsville, Ohio / Wright State) doubled.
The homestand continues with a doubleheader on Friday (June 28) night at 5:35 PM against the Danville Dans.
