SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Champion City Kings (12-28, 5-6) prepped for the upcoming long road trip with a the first game of a back-to-back at Carleton Davidson Stadium on Friday (July 12) night.
Champion City was defeated 5-1 by the REX (22-14, 7-1) as the Kings remain in second place for the Northeast Division.
The REX kicked off the game with a run in the third and a pair in the fourth inning, leading 3-0 at the halfway point. The sixth inning saw each team score. Terre Haute scored first before the Kings answered in the bottom half. Braylen Blomquist (St. Clairsville, Ohio / Wright State) tripled to deep right-center field and scored on a Quintin Reep (Bridgeport, West Virginia / Fairmont State) single.
REX Baseball finished the scoring in the eighth inning. Champion City loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth with two walks and a single but could not rally, falling 5-1.
Reep, James Salvatori (Wheeling, West Virginia / West Liberty) and Ben Bach (Waconia, Minnesota / USAO) all had two hits in the contest. Salvador Diaz (Norwalk, California / Gallaudet) extended his hitting streak with a double.
Wesley Culley (Millington, Tennessee / Cumberlands) started and allowed four runs (two earned) in 5.2 innings with five strikeouts. Evan Ables (Dayton, Ohio / PennWest California), Nate Miller (Port St. Lucie, Florida / Notre Dame College) and Joe Stone (Waynesville, Ohio / Thomas More) combined for one run allowed in 3.1 innings out of the bullpen.
Champion City will host Danville at 6:35 PM on Saturday (July 13) night.
