JOHNSTOWN, PA – Five runs in the last two innings proved to be the difference maker, as the Champion City Kings won 7-6 over the Johnstown Mill Rats to take two-of-three in the road series.
Starter Gabe Phipps (Yorktown, IN; Tallahassee Community College) threw for 5.2 innings, allowed four earned runs on six hits and three walks, while striking out two. Cam Gilkerson (Hilliard, OH; Hilliard Darby High School) threw a clean 1.1 innings of relief, with Ben Zink (Clayton, OH; Wright State University) earning the win in his 1.2 innings of two-run, two-hit, two-strikeout performance. Kyle Kesel (Hilliard, OH; Hilliard Darby) also threw a clean third of an inning.
Offensively, Nikolas Pereira (Palmetto Bay, FL; Florida Southwest State College), Broc Parmer (Fargo, ND; Gulf Coast State College), Lucas Day (Dayton, OH; Oakland University), Blake Buzzeo (Stow, OH; Miami University), and Sam Seeker (Tallmadge, OH; University of Akron) each had two hits, with Day picking up four RBI.
