Wetherholt Headlines Prospect League Alums in 2024 MLB Draft Class

The Prospect League had 25 players with Prospect League ties that were selected during Major League Baseball’s 2024 Amateur Player Draft this past July.

Of the 25 players, there were two former Champion City Kings that had their name called in the 2024 MLB Draft in Texas.

First Round

J.J. Wetherholt of West Virginia University was selected 7th overall by the St. Louis Cardinals. Wetherholt spent the 2021 Prospect League season with the Champion City Kings, hitting .414 with 48 hits, 22 runs batted in, and 20 runs scored in 36 games.

In his debut season with the Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals, Wetherholt hit .295 in 29 games with a pair of home runs.

His 2021 teammate with the Kings and as well at WVU, Aidan Major was selected 146th overall by the Cleveland Guardians in the 5th round.
