JOHNSTOWN, PENN — Kings Pitcher Cade Kontny strong arms the Mill Rats, 11-1
On Saturday Night, the Kings offense erupted with two outs in their share of the third inning. The first run came home on an infield error to score Jayson Zmejkoski (North Port, FL; Tallahassee CC). Edrick Padilla (Salinas, Puerto Rico; Ohio Wesleyan) singled the second run, following with a RBI Double by Nick Dolan (Pittsburgh, PA; Ohio Univ.) A single by Evan Waggoner (Bedford, IN; Evansville) scored the last two runs in the inning to surge ahead 5-0. While that would have been enough, the Kings kept swinging the bats.
Two more runs scored in the sixth inning, as Zmejkoski scored one with a RBI hit and helped the second score with some baserunning. Four more would put the game out of reach, as Dolan homered for the first Champion City HR to cap off the eighth inning. It was 11-1 Kings after eight, sealing the first win for Springfield’s team. Cade Kontny (Lakeland, FL; Spring Arbor) threw a spectacular seven innings for his debut, striking out five and only allowing one earned run on three hits for the victory. Tyler Wynkoop (Huber Heights, OH; Toledo) threw a 1-2-3 inning while striking out two.
The Kings are returning home to Carleton Davidson Stadium on Monday, June 6th against the Johnstown Mill Rats on Teachers’ Appreciation Night. For tickets, event information, PLTV links, and more, please visit championcitykings.com!
