Kings for the win tonight at a spectacular Fireworks Friday!
SPRINGFIELD, OH – It’s not every day a baseball fan gets to see two sets of fireworks in one day. Fortunately for the Kings fans, they saw just that with post-game fireworks and an eight-run seventh inning that elevated Champion City to a 9-7 win. It was the first victory at Carleton Davidson Stadium for the Kings in 2022.
Lafayette soared ahead to a 3-0 lead before Champion City scored their first run off an Ethan Krizen (North Port, FL; Tallahassee CC) double. That would be the last run for a few innings for Champion City. The Kings were kept in check by Lafayette’s starter, just allowing three hits and one run.
Things drastically changed for Champion City in the seventh frame, scoring eight runs off of three pitchers. Nick Dolan (Pittsburgh, PA; Ohio Univ.) singled in two runs to cut the deficit to 7-3. Patrick Fultz (Springfield, OH; Clark-Shawnee High School) reached first on a two-error bunt, bringing home another pair of runs. Then, Edrick Padilla (Salinas, Puerto Rico; Ohio Wesleyan) doubled in the tying runs to make it 7-7. The Kings took the lead for good, as Krizen homered out to left field for a 9-7 lead.
Charlie Schafer (Beavercreek, OH; Wittenberg), Jake Woolf (Beavercreek, OH; Cal. Univ. of Penn.), and Manny Reyes (Palmetto, FL; Florida State College at Jacksonville) combined to keep the Aviators further off the board. Reyes, in his debut with the Champion City Kings, earned the save and Schafer secured the win.
Champion City is now 3-6, with the Lafayette Aviators in Springfield for one more game. West Virginia rolls back in to town on Sunday afternoon. For tickets, event information, PLTV links, and more, please visit championcitykings.com!
