Mill Rats 6, Kings 5

Kings couldn’t pull out the win tonight but have a chance to bounce back at tomorrow’s away game against the Chillicothe Paints.

SPRINGFIELD, OH – Breaking a long losing streak, the Johnstown Mill Rats scored six unanswered runs to defeat the Champion City Kings 6-5.

Drew Lang (Naples, FL; Tallahassee CC) made his third start of the year, looking for his first win of the year. His offense provided him a 1-0 lead, as Ethan Krizen (North Port, FL; Tallahassee CC) doubled in the first run of the game. The Kings wouldn’t score for a few innings, but had ample opportunities in almost every frame.

Johnstown tacked on four runs on Lang in five innings plus one batter in the sixth, walking two and striking out six. Kyler Archual (Columbus, OH; Tiffin) gav up the last two runs off a home run, working two full innings. Gabe Carter (Huntington, WV; Rio Grande) and Manny Reyes (Palmetto, FL; Florida State College at Jacksonville) teamed up to pitch two shutout innings.

The Kings got four runs in the eighth, but the rally bats fell short in the ninth. Champion City fell to 4-8 on the year, as the Kings prepare for a four-game swing with two different stops to Chillicothe, and a two-day tour of Western Indiana at Lafayette and Terre Haute. The Kings return home on June 21st against Chillicothe, as the Opening Night game will resume with the Paints up 4-0 in the Top of the 2nd at 5:35. The scheduled game is now seven innings following the completion of the first game. For tickets, PLTV information, and more, visit championcitykings.com!
