Danville, IL – The Champion City Kings fell in the first half finale at Danville, as the Dans defended their home with a 9-1 win.
Champion City’s starter Kyler Archual (Columbus, OH; Tiffin Univ.) allowed five earned runs in 4.1 innings, with seven hits, one walk, and three punchouts. Noah Penney (Fort Murray, Alberta, Canada; Tiffin Univ.) threw the last 3.2 innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits, three walks, and seven strikeouts.
With the Dans up 9-0 after seven innings, the Kings got their lone run of the day, as Edrick Padilla (Salinas, Puerto Rico; Ohio Wesleyan) picked up an RBI Single to score Jonah Sutton (Collierville, TN; Memphis.) Padilla finished 1-for-3 with the lone Kings RBI. Sutton had the other two hits for Champion City, going 2-for-4 with the lone run scored.
Champion City fell to 9-20 to close out the first half. The second half is scheduled to begin July 5th, with the Kings visiting Chillicothe. The Danville Dans are back in Springfield Wednesday, July 6th for the first home game of the second half. The Kings will battle West Virginia and Johnstown for the last playoff spot available in the Ohio River Valley Division.
