Kings 5, Rex 1

SPRINGFIELD, OH – Jake Woolf (Beavercreek, OH; Cal. U. of Penn.) made just his second start, but the right-hander handcuffed the best batting team in the Prospect League as the Kings won 5-1 . It was the first win in the second half for Champion City, as the offense scored five runs on seven hits.

The Kings got to work in their first inning, as Evan Lorey (Howell, MI; Spring Arbor Univ.) picked up an RBI Groundout in his first at-bat with Champion City. Nick Dolan (Pittsburgh, PA; Ohio University) came home with the bases loaded. Another run came home in the second inning, as Ben Stuart (Mason, OH; Evansville) walked to begin the frame. As Alex Ryan (Lake Mills, WI; Valparaiso) stole second, Stuart came home on a wild throw by the Rex catcher. That’s all the offense needed to seal the win, but Champion City got three more runs in their seventh inning. Dolan doubled in Trey Carter (Wheelersburg, OH; Rio Grande) for the third run of the game. With Dolan and Patrick Fultz (Springfield, OH; Shawnee H.S.) on base, a wild pitch scored both of the runners to put the score up 5-1.

The Rex got their lone run in the sixth inning, as Woolf departed after 5.1 innings, allowing just one run on five hits, two walks, and eight strikeouts. Gabe Carter (Huntington, WV; Rio Grande) threw 2.2 innings of clean baseball, allowing two hits and one walk with one punchout. Connor Lockwood (Libertyville, IL; Valparaiso) threw a scoreless ninth inning to help the Kings improve to 1-2 in the second half. In his debut, Evan Lorey went two for four with one RBI. Alex Ryan went 3-for-3 in the contest, with Nick Dolan picking up the second RBI and going 1-for-5.

The Kings will get back to Ohio River Valley Division action, starting off with a doubleheader against the West Virginia Miners. The doubleheader begins Sunday at 4:05, with both games scheduled to go seven innings. For tickets, PLTV info, and more, please check out championcitykings.com!
