Five-Run Bombers First Downs Kings

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – In the third game of the series between the Champion City Kings (6-11) and Dubois County Bombers (7-12), the Bombers used a big first inning to take Tuesday’s (June 18) contest at Carleton Davidson Stadium 8-3.

Dubois County scored five runs in the first inning to jump out to a 5-0 lead before Champion City came to bat.

The Kings cut into the lead with two runs in the third inning. Johnny Costella (Cleveland, Ohio / Notre Dame College) singled and Louis Florida (Wilmette, Illinois / DePauw) doubled to advance both runners into scoring position. Joe Ricchio (Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin / Southern Indiana) singled both runners home to continue his hot streak at the plate. Champion City made it 5-2.

Dubois County added runs in the fifth and sixth innings, extending the lead to 7-2 after six frames.

Two walks and a hit by pitch loaded the bases in the seventh inning allowed the Kings to attempt a rally. A double play scored a run for a 7-3 lead for the visitors.

The Bombers completed the scoring in the eighth inning with a run, making it 8-3.

Florida had two of the six hits for the Kings in the game.

Bennett LaPalm (Bellbrook, Ohio / Dayton) started and gave up five runs (four earned) in four innings of work. LaPalm fell to 1-2 on the year after taking the loss. Soren Strombeck (Oakwood, Ohio / Lake Erie College) allowed two runs in two innings of relief. Andrew DeWitt (Springfield, Ohio / Indianapolis) walked three and surrendered a run in 1.2 innings. Evan Ables (Dayton, Ohio / PennWest California) finished the game with 1.1 scoreless innings.

The series concludes with a buy one get one hot dog free night at the ballpark on Wednesday (June 19). First pitch is 6:35 PM against the Bombers.
