Paints Keep Kings Away 5-2

SPRINGFIELD, OH – Zach Cabell (North Ridgeville, OH; Clark State College) made his first start keeping the Chillicothe Paints offense much quieter than the previous night, but the Kings were unable to take the lead in the 5-2 loss at home.

Cabell, coming off his first save in the Wednesday Night win over Johnstown, impressed in his five innings of work. Just two runs (one earned) would score in his five frames, with six hits scattered with no walks and two strikeouts. The bullpen consisted of names from lineups past, as Carson Womer (Parrish, FL; Florida State College at Jacksonville) and Ben Zink (Clayton, OH; Wright State University) threw the last four innings. Womer also pitched with the Blue Wave, whereas Zink was a pitcher and outfielder at Northmont High School. Womer threw two innings, allowed one run on four hits, no walks, and one punchout. Zink threw the last two, allowing two earned runs with three hits and the only two walks allowed by the Kings that night, striking out one. Zink also threw the only inning where Chillicothe failed to pick up a hit.

On the offensive side of the ball, it was Connor Huzicka (Gahanna, OH; Tiffin University) scoring the first Kings run in the fifth and trailing 2-0. From third, Huzicka scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit in half. In the seventh inning, Nikolas Pereira (Palmetto Bay, FL; Florida Southwest State College) singled home Ryan Robinson (Plant City, FL; Saint Leo University) to bring Champion City back within a run. That’s as close as the Kings got, with the Paints winning three straight against Springfield’s team with a 5-2 decision.

The Kings now hit the road for the second time, out west to tangle with the Danville Dans on Sunday evening. For tickets, PLTV streams, and more, keep exploring championcitykings.com!
