Chillicothe, OH – For the third time this year and for the second straight game, the Champion City Kings fell by one run. The host Chillicothe Paints, trailing 5-2 halfway through, galloped for four of the last five runs scored to improve to 2-0 against the Springfield team.
Starter Cade Kontny (Lakeland, FL; Spring Arbor University) went four innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits and one walk. Manny Reyes (Palmetto, FL; Florida State College at Jacksonville) suffered the loss, throwing two innings and allowing three runs. He retired the first batter, sitting the first six batters since arriving to Springfield in three appearances.
Offensively, both Sean Kolenich (Parma, OH; Baldwin-Wallace) and Alex Ryan (Lake Mills, WI; Valparaiso) collected two RBI and teaming up for three of the thirteen Kings hits. Trey Carter (Wheelersburg, OH; Rio Grande) and Jayson Zmejkoski (North Port, FL; Tallahassee CC) had two hits a piece as the Kings outhit Chillicothe 13-7.
